Canpaign Letter

June 1, 2009
Hon. Jose Serrano
Bronx Office
788 Southern Blvd.
Bronx, Ny. 10455

Dear Congressman Serrano,

Hello Congressman Jose E. Serrano. My name is Melissa Nunez, and I attend school in the Bronx, Ny.
You might not be aware, but there are a lot of people in this world that still work under horrible
conditions. Companies such as Dell, Microsoft, Nike, Walmart, and others push their workers to work
overtime, barely pay them, and have them work under dangerous conditions. I feel that this is unacceptable
and cruel. They shouldn't be forced to work so many hours for so little pay. Some of these factories are
located in Bangladesh, China, and Indonesia. The Walmart companies in Bangladesh pay their factory workers
as little as $20 each month. Not only is this happening in other countries, but it's also going on in our
United States. Pilots at America's non union commuter airlines say that they often fly on too little sleep.
Pilots have reported that they struggle to stay alert while flying, and one of them has gone $100,000 into debt
to train for a co-pilot's job that only pays him $25,000 annually. Not only is this dangerous for the pilot's health,
but it's extremely dangerous for the passengers. Planes should not be flown by a pilot that can barely
stay awake.

Now this is why I am sending you this letter, Dear Congressman. I think that everybody should be informed
about what is happening with these pilots, and I think we should help them. I alone cannot help them, but
all of us togethor might be able to. I accept the fact that we cannot help the people in Indonesia or China, but
the same thing is happening in America. Our pilots are being over-worked and underpaid and it is ridiculous.
I think we should take a stand for these pilots and help show the world what those terrible companies are doing
to their workers. Those pilots have families. I'm guessing it's really hard for a pilot to pay his bills,
buy food, buy clothes, etc. and still have to pay off a $100,000 debt, with only $25,000 a year. So i'm hoping this
letter has opened your eyes to the terrible things that are going on in the world of all the over worked and underpaid
employees.

Sincerely,
Melissa.
